Day Tripper: Cooperstown

Day Tripper: Cooperstown

Just over an hour from Albany to the western skyline lies the historic lakeside town, Cooperstown. Named after the infamous, James Fenimore Cooper- author of The Last of the Mohicans, Cooperstown isn’t just for baseball fanatics - it’s historic, inspiring, and beautiful, and all within a short drive of the Capital Region.

Start your day with a coffee and treat along the shores of Otsego Lake. A favorite for locals and visitors alike, Stagecoach Coffee, is the spot to get your caffeine buzz with delectable breakfast options. An insider tip - order your drinks and food to go and stroll down to the park for the closest lake-view you could have on land.

Cooperstown is the place for the curious with three main museums to inspire the mind and give a nod to American history.

National Baseball Hall of Fame: Welcoming guests since 1939, visitors explore America’s favorite pastime from historic origins to the modern-day inductions. A family-friendly, interactive museum for avid fans and those who mix up Babe Ruth and Baby Ruth (the candy bar). Be sure to catch a game at DoubleDay field for a fan experience in the heart of it all!

Fenimore Art Museum: For even more art, culture, and history, The Fenimore Art Museum’s rotating exhibits and permanent collections share a perspective as if you’re looking through a window back in time. Visitors will find artistic views from inside the museum walls to the vista of Otsego Lake from the property.

The Farmers' Museum: Hop through time in Otsego County, immersing yourself in fun from the 19th century. Start with learning about a working farmstead to taking a spin on The Empire State Carousel, only pausing to take in the familiar scent of the beer-making process in the hops house.
