Samascott’s Orchard/Garden Market: You may know the name from New York’s famous apple picking season, or you may be a Nine Pin Hard Cider fan. The Samascott family owns and operates the Samascott Orchard and Samascott’s Garden Market in Kinderhook. The family’s farming roots date back to the early 1900s with a focus on dairy cows and crops. The farm has evolved from 180 acres to over 1000 acres and shifted to growing fruits and vegetables while raising Angus Cow and offering Pick -Your -Own . For an ideal family friendly Pick -Your -Own experience their offerings are bountiful and affordable. If you want a fun, creative way to get around the 200 acre farm, rent their SURREY (Bike) with the Fringe on Top (Any Oklahoma fans out there?!) for $10/half hour. If you’d rather shop in the garden market, you’ll find local grocery, meat, bread, veggies, fruit, plants, garden tools and of course their famous ICE CREAM! Pick -Your -Own Fruits & Veggies Hours: Wed-Mon 8am-5pm with last entry at 4pm (CLOSED on Tuesdays) Admission is per person ($5 pp, $2.50 for seniors 65+, Free for Military with ID, Free for kids age 9 & under).
You drive your vehicle into the orchard. Your car will be inspected upon your exit, sadly this is due to produce theft. The employees are incredibly well versed in the offerings and so helpful.
You can bring your own containers to be weighed upon entry or you can purchase them.
You will be provided a map with what is available to pick that day- note picking food that is not listed on the map is NOT OK- remember to treat the plants with care, human damage to crops will affect the future bounty of our local food supply.
