Winding Creek Farm

Winding Creek Farm

Nestled “over the river” in Rensselaer county is a new farm and store that's been years in the making, Winding Creek Farm. Family owned and operated, Winding Creek Farm connects local residents with local products, produce, and their own pastured raised beef and pork. What stemmed from a lifelong dream to raise their families on a farm turned into a key resource for the community.

The Cioffi brothers purchased the land and barns five years ago and have been cultivating their vision of Winding Creek Farm along with their full time jobs. Growing up in West Sand Lake, they drove by the property countless times, always admiring the barn, watching it become more overgrown with each year passing until their luck changed in 2015 when the parcel was on the market. Farming isn’t foreign to them; their Grandfather was a farmer in Dutchess County. The name reflects the ever winding path of the Moordener Kill, a tributary of the Hudson River, which flows through Schodack and Castleton and begins near the grounds of the farm. While the vision for the farm evolved from raising meat to feed their families, to filling a void in the local community, the standards always held true: if we wouldn’t feed it to our children, we won’t feed it to our neighbors.

Now more than ever, people are expressing an interest in learning where their food comes from. Winding Creek Farm partners with producers who  align with their high standards for sourcing quality products and ingredients. Products are sourced from down the road, to across state lines with customer needs in mind. The pork and beef are pastured raised at Winding Creek Farm; you can see the cows behind the barn! (The pigs are just down the hill, behind the beautiful farm house). Partnering with local makers such as Mort’s Maple (Averill Park), Beth’s Farm Kitchen (Old Chatham), Four Fat Fowl (Stephentown), Battenkill Valley Creamery (Salem), and Crosscut Coffee Co (Hudson), you will feel great about satisfying your taste-buds and supporting the local economy. One non-local product stood out for excellent reasons: Valente Pasta is plant based and created in a facility free of soy, eggs, nuts, dairy, and fish in Charlottesville, VA. You’ll discover new additions to the pantry you didn’t know you needed!

The beef and pork is frozen in many cuts/varieties, butchered locally in Argyle. The flavor and quality will make your weekend meal planning easy!

Our faves (so far): Bacon (thick cut, and amazing) & Ground Beef (a kitchen staple, elevated).

The store is inside the big gray barn, providing a pleasant, stress-free shopping experience. Chances are you’ll see the familiar faces of the family working and helping customers. While inside, take a moment to appreciate the restoration, warm woodwork and vast size of the structure. Be sure to look up to admire the unique farm tool lighting fixture. Although this isn’t their day job, this passion project has taken on a life of its own. At the time of writing, just about six weeks since opening, the local reception has been unparalleled. Winding Creek Farm is truly a gem in Rensselaer County.
